Proceeds supply adult & community education scholarships to Flagler students in need.
* You and UU If you are a new member or would like to know more about Unitarian Universalism, you are invited to attend a series of three information sharing sessions. The meetings will focus on UU history, philosophy and values, also on our own UU Society. The next session will be announced by the membership committee.
The Alliance has begun to expand..
The New Smyrna UU Church was invited to attend and join forces with our UU to become a more powerful force for good in our community. We had a pot luck luncheon and began discussing ideas for the future. We decided to invite the other two UU churches in Deland for the April Alliance meeting. We will begin planning future activities to be a positive force in Volusia county.

We will be inviting Claris of Family Renew to the April meeting. We would like to all have a four wide UU church effort in helping Family Renew however we can.

Celebration of Life for Marge Peppers was held on June 18, 2010. Her Family and friends shared stories, poems, and songs to recognize the love, joy, kindness and humor that she brought to many lives. The UU Choir sang some of her favorite hymns. After the service food and drink were served. This was a good time to view a sample of some of her many collectables. She loved collecting and sharing. Instead of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
May 2, 2010 Wayne Johnson Memorial and Butterfly Garden Dedication

After Sunday Service, brunch was served to family and friends who then gathered near a small plot of land that was dedicated in loving memory to Wayne Johnson. Wayne enriched all of our lives with his generosity of spirit and courage of heart. Many of his friends shared stories of happy times that were spent with Wayne. There is a memorial bench for visitors to sit and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Last year’s event was enjoyed by those who attended. We will try to make this year’s event even better. And as an added bonus, if our ticket revenue exceeds our expenses the excess will be placed in a fund designated for acquisition of an overhead (ceiling mount) projector for the sanctuary for the benefit of all our members.

On Friday evening, February 16, 2007 we celebrated Valentine's Day with a meal provided by the men. The men prepared a delicious festive meal and they did all the work. They set-up the room, prepared the food, stood in line to get dinner for all "Valentines", provided the entertainment, and cleaned up. The women were impressed.. I heard Gaia say, "It sure is nice to stay out of the kitchen". She was not the only one to share that sentiment.
Thank you guys for a memorable event, we appreciate it.

Special visitors (aka Bonnie and Jim) added to the fun.

Thanksgiving Dinner 2005

In the great UU tradition of bringing together those of us whose families are far away to enjoy fellowship at a shared Thanksgiving Dinner, UUSDBA hosted a communal Thanksgiving for the second year in a row.

Tables were set in our formal best with real china, seasonal centerpieces and napkins by Polly Fink , Rudy Fehling, Kurtland Davies and Jim Christianson.
Many came to set up and watch the two sumptuous turkeys come from the oven, Pastor Bud’s mashed potatoes rise slowly 6” above it’s pot and to smell the wonderful aroma of favorite recipes as they appeared on the table. Steve McLaughlin also smoked a third turkey so we had bounty and variety.

Our list of attendees kept growing until the day arrived. Altogether we had a gathering of 65 enthusiastic UU s, family members and dear friends.
This festive holiday was made even more delightful with the contributions of our entertainers. We had music and laughter, stories and poems. A few stalwarts stayed and cleaned the kitchen!

Thanks to all who came and shared this special day. A special thanks to all of you who helped.

Gaia and Kurtland, Carla and Jim

The First Friday Pot Luck in February 2005 gave many folks a chance to say Good Bye to Marie Campbell, UUS secretary and bookeeper for over 8 years.

The "Art Sale" featuring Dick McCue's paintings donated by the McCue children in memory of Dick and Louise McCue was quite a success. Those of us fortunate enough to purchase a picture will have a wonderful memory of the MCCue family. The proceeds from the sale are over $1,000 and will benefit the U.U.S.

A Memorial Service for Louise McCue was held Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2:30 pm at the UUS. The Mc Cue family members and many friends remembered Louise and Dick at the service.
